The WWW.ROVERSD1.INFO TEAM Oscar Bakker Technical advisor SD1 club, webmaster of this site. I bought my car back in 1998 in Gent Belgium after a long period of searching for a proper SD1. This 2600 was the best car at the time I. It was reasonably priced and because I could work on the car together with my nephew (Marcel Kokshoorn) every free weekend, we where able to get it on the road again. It took me almost two years before the car was finally able to drive on the Dutch Roads. A complete engine overhaul took place during that period of time. Brakes, carburetors, headlining, suspension and gearbox all went through my hands before I end the job. I like the 6 cylinder, it is not such a bad car as everyone would use to believe. If you do a regular maintenance you are able to drive many miles without problems. To share my experience with other 6 cylinder drivers I started this web site. For the UK Rover SD1 club I'm the technical advisor for the 6 cylinder cars. In case you have any question feel free to ask it.
Lee Allen and his wife Sally. Lee is the Lee Allen Camping Coordinator for the Rover SD1 club. But apart from that he is doing so many other things for the club, he sometimes think the club can only run with him! Lee moved this year to a larger house, with more space for all his cars. And didn't he had one 2600 to drive at first and one 2600 to overhaul, nowadays Lee bought himself a 2300, a 2600 Vdp which he sold after he had it driving properly again, and a series 1 3500 to overhaul in the near future. Lee is very fond of his cars, and very much dedicated to the 6 cylinder cars. He's an excellent mechanic and willing to help you out if he can. Therefore we are very happy that he joins our internet web site team to share all his knowledge were ever he can. Kasper Karssen I own a Rover 2600 vanden Plas for many
years now, what a car! I have driven many kilometers on the Dutch roads
with this particular car. It is always nice to have the looks of people
when you pass by. The 6 cylinder engine is not the bad engine everybody
wants you to believe. In fact it is nice piece of engineering, and once
you know how to handle it you can have lots of pleasure with this car
for many many years. Did you know that there is not that much difference
in horsepower between the 2600 and the V8 3500? It is just 12 Bhp!
We like to help you with your 6 cylinder, so if you have any question, please feel free to contact us. There is a lot of information on the engine in books, but it is always easy to have contact with others who done certain jobs before. Starting with the overhaul of a 6 cylinder is not always easy, we both have many experiences and are willing to help you out. Please mail us by clicking on one of the names, or use the forum button and ask your question there. |
