Lee Allen, Project "Sally"... Headlining. The D/E post interior trim panels. With the old cloth removed they are ready to be re-upholstered. In his free time, Lee started to repair the headlining, see how he did it. These caps are not the most difficult part of the headlining. You can cut a piece of fabric material in the approx size and simply put glue on the D caps, folding the fabric around it. You can use the diner table for that, but be aware your wife is out for shopping and don't see you doing this... Here is the result! Nice job Lee, and the table is still 100%. Nice job!
But then there was the headlining itself. I know myself it is a difficult job. The removal of the headlining isn't that difficult if you have no sun roof. If there is, take care the headlining material isn't breaking on the weak parts. If your headlining material is completely gone, you can remove it simply by brushing it of or by using a scraper tool.. The old foam layer can be removed with a brush, and maybe by using some sanding paper. Take car not to damage the headlining material to much, every damage need to be repaired before you can glue on the new material. Here is the roof panel with old the old material removed. There is no room for mistakes here. I found it easier to work from the middle outwards. Using a spray adhesive, its best to coat both the board and the new cloth. Its is best to work little by little and check as you go because once its stuck..... its stuck. Then you have to wait another 15 years before it sag's again before you can do any repairs
Cut away the rest material.
Once the material is in place, allow the glue to dry for a few hours before handling the headlining to trim and bond the edges. Till next time....
